Wrapping Up The RIP IV Challenge

I signed up for Peril the Second in the RIP IV Challenge -- which requires the reading of any two books from any scary genre of your choice. I have managed not only to complete it (bounce, bounce, "Wahoo!", bounce) but also to double it by reading four books. So, even though I've still got a few more creepy books on the fall agenda, I'm just going to go ahead and wrap up the RIP IV. That will free me up to focus on the YA Dystopian Challenge. I'm not too good at balance and prefer just doing one challenge at a time, you see.

Books completed:

1. Darling Jim by Christian Moerk
2. House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo
3. Pale Phoenix by Kathryn Reiss
4. The Maze Runner by James Dashner

All four books were enjoyable. I haven't reviewed The Maze Runner, yet, (coming soon, I promise!!!) but it's definitely edge-of-your-seat suspense and would also qualify for the YA Dystopian Challenge. I highly recommend it if you're looking for titles.

Many thanks to Carl V. of Stainless Steel Droppings for hosting the 4th RIP Challenge. It has always been my personal favorite and this year was just as fun as always!

  3. Wahoooooo! :) I never got around to signing up for Carl's challenge, but I've already read one creepy book (review to come - we're discussing it tonight at book club) and I'm in the middle of a second (Joe Hill's short stories), which I'm really enjoying!! Congrats on your success with this challenge.

  4. Les,

Thank you! You're reading 20th Century Ghosts? I loved that. Except, Buttonboy totally freaked me out. Loved the title story and the one with the inflatable boy. "Pop Art"?

  5. You are doing well with the Challenge. I still have one more to read as well. Hope to read it this coming weekend.

  6. Wahoo! It's great to meet your goal, and then completely go beyond it! Congratulations!

  7. Ooooh...I have an ARC of The Maze Runner!! I didn't even think of reading that for the Dystopian Challenge but that WOULD work perfectly :D

Glad to see that you finished your challenge and surpassed it :) I knew you would!!

  8. Diane,

Thanks. I always love the RIP. It's hot when we start but sometimes it's cool by the time it ends and this is one of those years. It's actually kind of nippy outside. Carl has escorted us into autumn, again. :)

Have fun reading that last book!

    Allison,

Yes, you know, I think I actually surprised myself, for once. Thanks for wahooing with me. :)

    Chris,

Oh, baby, you will love The Maze Runner, I promise. It's all kinds of horrifying, scary thrill ride - absolutely, utterly perfect for the Dystopian. Come to think of it, I may just call it one of my Dystopian books for the sake of linking it with the other books I finish and maybe getting it a little more exposure, if that's possible. I'm almost done with Uglies. I kinda keep falling asleep, you see.

Thank you! You always expect great things of me. If I could just suck up some of your confidence in me, I would be a much cooler person.

  9. Yay for finishing! I really want to read The Maze Runner! I was done a while ago, but since I figured I would read other books that would work I haven't wrapped it up yet.

  10. I am almost done with this one. Just need to finish one short novel and I will call it a day with this challenge. :)

  11. YAY!!! Congrats on finishing up!

Oh, how I envy you your self-control in only doing one challenge at a time...if I could get it below 20 at time I'd be mighty happy. (And possibly actually finish one, too.)

  12. I meant to sign up for this one and just never did. I'm reading Rebecca, so that definitely would have counted, but oh well. Congrats on finishing!!! Makes you want to join more challenges? :P

  13. Kailana,

The Maze Runner is awesome, but heartbreaking. I can't wait to read the next in the series. Go for it!

I'm the opposite in that I figure I can read more without bothering to keep track of them as part of a challenge, so it's better just to wrap up what I've done and keep on reading. :)

    Harry,

I'll have to tippy-toe over there to see what you've read, tomorrow. Today, we have carpet people coming!!! Wahoo!! After two years of walking on concrete and living without a sofa, I am so excited. Have fun with the last of your reading! :)

    Debi,

Thanks! It's not so much self-control as the knowledge that too many challenges stress me out. So, it just seems silly not to keep it down to what I know I can personally handle -- which it took a while to figure out, but involves the number 1. :)

    Trish,

Is this your first time reading Rebecca? You're right; it's a perfect book for the RIP. I LOVE Rebecca -- it's one of my all-time favorite creepy books. LOL - It was fun, but not enough to convince me I need to go back to joining a lot of challenges. One at a time with breaks between is about it for me. :)

  14. Yup--first time with Rebecca. About halfway through. Just had the horrible ball where she dressed up as Catherine de Winter. That Mrs. Davers...(shaking my head violently).

  15. LOL, Trish!!!

Sounds like you're really into it. :)

  16. I haven't gotten to Buttonboy yet, but I've really enjoyed all the stories so far. Pop Art was great! So far, none have creeped me out.

  17. Les,

Pop Art is sooo good. Trust me, Buttonboy will creep you out.

  18. I will eventually get down to doing that. I am so lazy these past few days and thoughts about doing less in the blogging sphere have been spinning in my mind. :P I will make an official participation list.

  19. Harry,

No hurry -- I keep falling behind and haven't made it back to your blog, yet. I periodically go through the same thought process, wondering if I should cut my blogging back to just a couple days per week.

  20. Happens with me all the time, so I understand you completely. Never worry. I don't think even I have the time to follow my own blog. Hah! And after this Halloween week I am really cutting my activity back.

  21. Me, too, Harry. I'm planning to *mostly* take off the month of November, partly due to NaNo and partly because I'm just spending too much time on my fat butt. :)

  22. You did so well for the challenge!
