Author, Author

Author photos!! I've got them!

Here's Colleen Gleason, posing with a copy of Rises the Night:

And, below, Simon Van Booy, signing my copy of The Secret Lives of People in Love (which I managed to spill water on, as I left it on the nightstand and someone knocked the bottle over; Simon says that makes it more special; but, it took an annoying two days for the book to dry out, during which I was unable to read for fear of tearing pages):

  1. I read The Rest Falls Away on my vacation. I really enjoyed it; it was perfect for the beach! I can't wait to get the next one!

  2. But, wait! Where are YOU?!

  3. Heather,

Isn't Colleen's writing terrific? Yep, definitely a great beach book. Check her website; Colleen has a link to a coupon for $1 off Rises the Night.

    Bellezza,

Hiding behind the camera, of course!! Colleen did make a poor, innocent waitress take a photo of the two of us, but Colleen's so cute and I'm so not that I really don't want to post it to the blog. I get shivers just thinking about doing so.

  4. Great pictures! Colleen's beautiful :) Great picture. She looks like she'd be so much fun to have lunch with. And Simon looks like quite the literary type! That's ashame about your book.

I agree with Bellezza...you should post pics of you, too! The only pic I've seen of you is on the NaNoWriMo page and that pic is so pixel-y!

  5. Chris,

Colleen is adorable and she talks a blue streak. I can't imagine how anyone could possibly not like her - just can't fathom it. She's a lovely, lovely person.

Simon is definitely the literary type. He's also quite talkative but he drops metaphors into his conversation, as he does in his writing. He's very cool. You'd like him, too. :)

Nooooo! I look terrible! I am way overweight and not photogenic, anyway - one of the reasons I've always been the gal behind the camera, rather than in front of it!

  6. How. Totally. Cool!!

Simon looks a bit like Johnny Depp!

  7. Nancy! You are horrible to yourself, lol...you looked perfectly pretty in the picture I managed to dig up on the NaNoWriMo page :) I know all about being overweight and non photogenic though. I understand the shyness...trust me!

  8. Les,

Totally cool, for sure. Does that sound Valley Girl to you?

Yes, he does a bit, especially in the eyes and coloring. :)

    Chris,

Silly guy. Of course, I chose the only decent photo of me that exists! LOL I do think I looked pretty decent when I was running, but I haven't been able to handle the heat since I screwed up and got myself dehydrated, so those days appear to be over. I miss running.

Is it just me, or does Simon bear a resemblance to Johnny Depp?

  10. Wish you were in the pics too, but great ones nonetheless..

  11. Lesley,

It's not just you. I mentioned that when I first saw photos of Simon and Book Nook Les made the same comment. In person, the resemblance is mostly in coloring and that terrific hair.

    Thanks, Nik!

I missed reading your blog and have been thinking about you because I'm reading Stevi Mittman's ARC of her next book. I think you'd love the character June Bayer. She's a bit like your MIL. :)

    Angela,

Thanks. I'm not photogenic and always try to stay out of pictures. It's a long-standing habit.

  12. Great author photos, and I love the one of the red-winged blackbird!

  13. Great pictures! Isn't Colleen a doll?? And Simon...man that guy just LOOKS like an author!!

Like everyone else, would have loved to you in the shot!

  14. Myutopia,

    Thanks. :)

    Jenclair,

Thanks and it's great to see you! I dropped by your blog and didn't comment, last night, but I'm thrilled to see you're posting, again, and that Laddie is improving.

    Stephanie,

Thanks. Yep, she's a doll, all right! And, I agree, Simon has the look of a writer. Of course the pen in his hand and that look of concentration may have something to do with it. LOL

    Argh. I've just looked back at my photo of me with Colleen and thought . . . uhhhhh . . . ummmm . . . I don't think so. ;)

  15. Okay, here's a plan: hold the book up in front of your face so we can only see your eyes. That's a great way to hide being camera shy, believe me, I tried it!

  16. I liked the way you did that, Bellezza. It really made your gorgeous hair stand out. Not sure if I will, but I'll give it some thought. :)

Oh, how fun! And he does look a bit like Johnny Depp. A man who drops metaphors in his conversations? I'll have to check out his book.

  18. Carrie,

You should definitely check out the book. I've been dying for someone else to read it, so I can talk to someone about some of the stories.

  19. Those are some great pictures. I am really glad you had a good time. :)

  20. Les- I thought the same thing. Johnny Dep dressed up. Cute!

    Colleen looks adorable too.

I'd love to meet some authors. What a nerd I am!

  21. Dear God, he's even in that suit from all the pics! hahhaaaa! I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I just ordered The Secret Lives of People in Love from Amazon, by the way. I couldn't hold out for a Bookmooch copy any longer!

  23. Krista,

Thanks. We did have a terrific time. It's always hard leaving Ann Arbor.

    Chris,

Johnny Depp gave up dressing tidy a loooong time ago. LOL Simon and Colleen are both cute. :)

Readers and writers are the coolest people to hang out with, if you ask me.

    Andi,

I don't think it's the same suit, but it's always nice to see a man dressed up, isn't it?

I'm so glad you ordered a copy!! TSLOPIL is worth owning, savoring and rereading. I'm going to sneak a copy into my cart when I order Harry Potter for kiddo. I want to own one that hasn't been drowned.

  24. Thank you for sharing, and yeah, why didn't you get in on those pictures, I would love to have seen you, too, Nancy!

Can I say on the blog that Simon is HOT? :)

Colleen is lovely too...so glad you got to meet them. Thanks for sharing the pics!

  25. Thanks, Lotus!

Well, lets just say I'm camera shy, shall we? But, also, I think I might be starting up a lose-weight challenge, soon. I need motivation. If there's one thing I don't want to share with the world, it's a photo of my double chin. :)

You can say Simon's hot - it'll make him grin, if he happens this way. He said he reads my blog and the comments are often "hilarious".

Colleen is so pretty. She said she has a good side and a bad side for photography, but she looked great from every angle to me!

Wow! Simon looks like Johnny Depp!!! WOohooo. And with an accent??? And he was in Michigan and you didn't introduce me while you were here?

    Naughty Bookfool! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Colleen!

You would have loved Simon's accent. :) But, we had a tiny bit of trouble getting together. Simon got turned around and hubby had to talk him into downtown Ann Arbor (which was kind of nice; he got to see the "real" Ann Arbor). It probably would have been very helpful to have you there to translate the map!

  28. I too think you should have got in on the picture, you're extremely photogenic (even if you drown books)

    Simon Van Booy

  29. Simon,

Okay. Next time I run into you, I'll tell you to scoot over and hand the camera to the waitress (but you'll have to relax!!). I'll have a fresh copy of that book for you to sign, by then. :)
